Consists of:
Driven through the FCM, HS-ACE, and HSA. Failure of the system disengages the AP. During an electrical emergency, only channel 2 of the HS-ACE and HSA is available, and the horizontal stabiliser works at a slow rate. Direct mode operation is also at a slow rate.
There are 4 slats and 2 double-slotted flaps on each wing. Slat and flap motion is sequenced so that slats extend first, and flaps retract first. Deployment is through 2 SF-ACEs, and electrically operated through 2 PDUs (a slat PDU and a flap PDU). There are 2 actuators per flap panel, and 2 per slat panel. Failure of a single channel in an SF-ACE or a single electric motor failure in a PDU results in low rate speed operation of the system. If there is a double channel failure, the system is no longer available. In an electrical emergency, low speed operation only is available. With the RAT deployed, flap/slat position 3 is the maximum available to ensure adequate airspeed for the RAT.
Slat/Flap Control Lever | Slat Position (°) | Flap Position (°) |
0 | 0 | 0 |
1 | 15 | 5 (E170) 7 (E190) |
2 | 15 | 10 |
3 | 15 | 20 |
4 (gate) | 25 | 20 |
5 | 25 | 20 |
Full | 25 | 35 (E170) 37 (E190) |
Position 4 is used only for takeoff, and position 5 only for landing.
There are 2 inboard dedicated ground spoilers (L1, L2 and R1, R2) which deploy after landing. Panels are fully stowed or fully deployed (60°). If opened 6° or more a takeoff config warning can be generated. With WOW, TLA idle, and wheel speed >45kts or airspeed >60kts, multi-function spoilers and ground spoilers are commanded open. When wheel speed <45kts or the thrust levers are >35° TLA, the spoilers retract automatically.
Ground spoilers are not available.
