Noise-induced Hearing Loss
Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is an increasingly prevalent disorder that results from exposure to high-intensity sound, especially over a long period of time. The higher frequencies are lost first. Sudden, explosive noise can also cause permanent damage.
A noise level of approximately 85 dB causes damage (140 dB causes severe pain in the ears).
