Dry Adiabatic Lapse Rate

Also from: DALR

The dry adiabatic lapse rate refers to the temperature change in a parcel of unsaturated air as it rises (or the pressure is reduced). The reduction in pressure allows the air to expand, and therefore cool.

DALR ≈ 3° / 1,000'
